My 9000th Post!!!!!!!!!

Well here's my 9000th post..

An even longer milestone since the last one..

I think I'll just call this speech 'Now and Then' - Please don't read too heavy into this..

Things are really slowing down on here, my own opinion is that there are that many members on here now it's no longer a Disney family forum that longer serving members know or remember, I think certain members will know what I mean. Times do change like everything and members do leave and move on, which at times is sad, but each to their own. The Forum moves on as it always has..

In one sense it's great that this Forum is increasing as ever in popularity and numbers, but sometimes more members do not equate to more sharing, more knowledge or even more fun. I know it must be hard to strike the right balance at times since at the end of the day the Forum can only be what the members make it as a whole..

I don't mean to sound downheartened to such a brilliant Disney Forum, it's just at times I do wonder and I know I'm not alone in my thoughts. I want to see this Forum continue to do what it does best and that is to inform, listen, answer, allowing sharing of everything Disney from one fan to another, but most of all keeping things interesting and fun..

Not an easy task I know especially with increasing numbers with lots of original topics getting lost only to aquire new ones resurrecting just the same topic. I admit I've seen a lot of changes around here over the years and I must say a lot for the good and well needed, but sometimes I have misgivings for certain threads that crop up. It seems to have lost it's big family personal touch, soley through numbers. Since when I joined there were about 750 - 850 members, five years on 3400+. I'm just noting the finer points here, nothing heavy..

I'm still here and I still find it the best Disney Forum around and would recommend it to anyone. I will continue to come here. In fact I owe a lot to this very Forum for things I've learned, gained, shared, furthering my aspirations and memories of being a member of the MagicForum, as well improve my Disney creativity within my own 'DisneyMagic' photo website..

I would like to commend the task that Kristof and Anthony have on here, which is getting increasingly harder with the vast numbers on here now, which led to coping with more spam and the need to increase webspace. Well done on that one Kristof, no easy task..

Anyway onwards and upwards and may we all continue to improve this Forum and enjoy our time on here..

Glad someone from the 'old guard' is still around. I know what you mean about the numbers - it's great to see the Forum grow in popularity, but it does have it's downside namely 1,000,000 similar topics asking about what the rooms are like. While there's nothing wrong with members asking perfectly valid questions it does mean you have to be on your toes to catch the discussion topics before they get buried.

I am at fault for not being here as much as I was, the pressure of final year studies do take their toll. But I'm glad I caught another of you milestones, I still remember 4000. Here's to 10,000 (dying to see if another star is forthcoming). And hopefully Burntsienna, Breeno, Captain Pan take a second to drop by and can back up mt sentiments.

I'm gonna go ahead and make a fleeting cameo here! haha it's been too long...

First off, congrats on the milestone Javey, good to see some of the oldies still kicking around here!

I do actually check the forum still almost every day, but I just don't have the same amount of time that I used to have any more to write-up any posts; it's a shame but when you get out of the swing of it it's hard to get back in! I'm actually at university now (scary I know!) studying film, but I do still follow most of the topics and news on here on a very regular basis (check out that 20th anniversary stuff - pretty cool 'eh (minus a certain train that looks even more garish than usual of course...) and Ratatouille - FINALLY!...) and I hope that everyone's doing well and not missing me too much.

I realise a lot of the newer members will be reading this going 'who on Earth is this guy!?' but for your milestone post about the olden days, I though it'd be appropriate to jump in one more time!

All the best guys and gals; you never know, maybe I'll get back into writing again on this old beloved forum of mine some time soon...

if i remember rightly you where the first person to ever respond to something i said here on the forum =] and that was just over a year ago, so i cant really relate to how the forum has changed, but i don't intend on going anywhere any time soon, regardless of how i practically dropped off the forum for a while after my last Disney trip (uni caught up with me and i had a relatively busy year last year)

but i'm moving off topic again, so i will leave it at wishing you congratulations again =]
(as much as i would love to put 9000 under this i don't think anyone will appreciate that so i will put 9 down one for each 1,000 posts)

@Pete's Dragon: Yes it's nice to see some familiar names around here and your comments are always appreciated in my book, you still have the wit you had all those years ago. Even the title still gives me a lump in my throat, after all that time. I remember when Laura kept adding to it, as with Captain Pan, who even did me a logo.. Thanks again..

P.S... As for the spamming if you check back to the last time I welcomed the intros, it was only a few posts less. I now let a month go by or more then reply to the intros all at once, it makes sure I don't miss any, I always go back to my last entry then move forwards.. Hows that for an explanation..

Also it would be nice to see some more of that art of yours sometime to add to my galleries..

Congratulations Javey, what a huge number - I always look forward to reading your posts & your great contributions to the Merchandise thread (slightly jealous of your huge collection! ). Congratulations, and thank you for being here! Honestly, this forum is nothing without members like yourself, so it's really wonderful to see such continued commitment and passion.

The member count is interesting. We might be above 3,000 now, but how many of those post regularly? I probably shouldn't talk down the forum I'm a moderator of, but I'd actually suspect the number of actual posters has only grown very slightly (perhaps ignoring the Trip Planning area) in these years. It's up to members of the "old guard" such as yourself to assert your position and bring newbies fully into the fold of DLP fanaticism!

About the rankings: Now, please don't close your account, throw your computer out the window or scream "I'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR NOTHING??!" so loudly that it can be heard as far away as Marne-la-Vallée, but as it stands... 5000 posts and "When You Wish Upon a Star" is the highest ranking. However, there's a tempting "Add new rank" on the admin interface, so let's see...

And about the spamming of the Introduce Yourself board: Yes, I believe that requires some kind of disciplinary action. Perhaps deducting 1,000 posts from your count, to even things up here?

Since I don't come here that often anymore, I couldn't congratulate you on that milestone sooner.

Javey and Pete, I totally agree with you that the forum slowed down a bit. I don't know when it happened, but during the last two years more and more members of the so called old guard left. I guess many joined the new German board, while other old members can be found on other boards. Anthony is still doing a great job in maintaining the board, but what happened to Kristof? I haven't seen him here for quite some time.

We are all getting older and interests change and although I'm still interested in Disney parks and like to talk about Disney, there is so much more and since Disney keeps disappointing me, I just not that interested in discussing the new additions. However it's still nice to see some of the long time members still here.
