Additions stretched onto two pages yesterday. Added the first "Guest Views" photographs, some shots from the 1996 Disney Classics/Spring Parade and the 1999 Wonderful world of Disney Parade, along with a 1997 Disneyland Hotel guide and some other interesting old photos.

• 21st June 2009 additions...

Today, new meets old. The map and programme from the MMP opening weekend meet three star items courtesy of Riebi -- Guidemaps from 1993, 1994 and 1995!



Look through the 1993/94 guide and suddenly almost all the phase 2 additions have sprung up with "Opening Autumn 1993" for example next to them.

The 1994 guide lists Adventureland Bazaar as opening Winter 1993, so what did that mean? Le Passage Enchanté d'Aladdin? Surely the bazaar was already open, but just as a passageway with shops? Perhaps they just hadn't decided on the final name.

Well, it looks like the British "heatwave" is over here at least. But if you're stuck inside as the rain pours down, I've got the perfect treat... To celebrate one month of the Memorabilia section, I took it along and introduced it to the Video section.

The result...

• 1998 'The Magic Formula...' Trip Planning VHS

A 1998 trip planning video in German, released through the Neckermann travel company and advertising primarily the “1998: Year of Disney Classics” theme year.

The video includes a wealth of footage from the early days of the park, much of it from the very first years, and also includes clips of the following more recent to 1998: Festival of Flowers, California Dream Festival, Pocahontas: le Spectacle, Hercules Happening, The Wonderful World of Disney Parade (Original, with all floats and interactive parade stop), Disney Classics: The Music and the Magic, En Scène, s’Il-Vous Plaît, the first ever Halloween Festival, Le Noel de Mickey, Mickey’s Nutcracker Parade, the Lights of Winter, Tree Lighting Ceremony and Main Street Electrical Parade.

There’s also a computer mock-up of the season’s new fireworks show, Tinkerbell’s Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks, showing her pixie dust flying around the hub to light up each land entrance (note the now long-gone Fantasyland arch!).

• 5th July 2009 additions...

Six Disney Village maps, one Euro Disney postcard, one 1993 Beauty and the Beast video insert (found whilst rummaging for more old trailers), three old 1994/95 UK brochure covers (incl. one we were missing - the only Euro Disneyland Paris one) and a Price Guide cover.

More great stuff tomorrow, particularly two Programmes from 1994 and 1996! (in August 1994, there were FOUR parades in one day, in one park...) Then on Monday, a complete mini-brochure from 1993, advertising the launch of the Beauty and the Beast show and featuring photos of the Indian Canoes, Hotel Cheyenne with sandy floors (before they were tarmacked over for obvious reasons) and outside dining at New York. Thanks to Yve for sending in these latest items!

It's funny how quickly Rock Shock was dumped for Beauty and the Beast. I guess they'd decided already the attraction wouldn't be built?

Note the Jay Rasulo-era "Enter Stage Right" promoted inside as if entering the park to find only half of it open is some kind of benefit. Haha.

Phew. Now, look out for a great 1991 sponsors brochure, quite a few more retro park tickets and the rest of the CD Albums coming soon. Maybe not every day, I'll give the updates a short break.

I've also got my hands on some amazing 1987 brochures, folders and press releases talking up the start of construction on "Euro Disneyland" (it hadn't been shortened to Euro Disney then, apparently). There's so much fascinating stuff in these, it was almost too much for me looking through them. (They advertise the 1920s Main Street, for example, complete with Movie Palace centrepiece...!)

YOUR memorabilia is still very much requested, however. Email it to memorabilia@dlrpmagic.com. The site has over 500 items, but when you look through it all year-by-year, we've still only just scratched the surface. There must be so much more out there.

^ Thanks! I'll add those with another tickets bonanza soon, got some new ones from 1997, 1999 and the first paper-style ones from 2001. The purple 15th ones seem a bit more elusive...

New recent items:





Look out for some really special items soon (my bank will be blocking me from eBay soon), including press releases, booklet and brochure from the Euro Disneyland project launch in 1987, and a whole series of "En Coulisse" backstage Cast Member magazines from the early 1990s, with unseen construction photos and lots of fascinating tidbits about the pre-opening years... it's amazing how many CMs there were before the place was even built.

Ohh I'm also thinking about adding a Memorabilia Blog of some kind, just a dedicated place on the site itself to post updates, histories, comments, etc. The current system of day-by-day pages isn't great (they don't get many views). There are lots of similar Disneyland blogs I subscribe to myself.
