After the discussion about old programmes here, a new section is coming soon to DLRP Magic!: Memorabilia.

I'll be setting up a special email for people to send in their artefacts.

I've been working on the site today and yesterday. I'm using Wordpress (no surprise there) and aiming to get something online and open this weekend. It's going to have a pretty basic design at least to begin with, but it's the content that matters here.

Speaking of which, that email address is simply memorabilia-(AT)-dlrpmagic.com ...or you can of course just upload your images/scans anywhere and post them here. Just make sure to include the name you want them to be credited to. The images I'm adding myself will be max 1000px width/height in large version, but whatever you can manage. I'll do the resizing.

And the first image in our Memorabilia archive was...

Followed by...

Image

And...

Image

After deliberating for a long time, I've decided to be brave and not add any watermarks whatsoever to the images. Just keep them as they are and hope for honesty. Do you think that's the right decision, or a bit suicidal?

This sounds like a really cool update. I'll definitely add some memorabilia after my finals. :D =D>

I ask this too some days before under the shower. On one hand it´s always nice to get a credit for work, on the other hand things like program flyers never were a piece made by myself. It was always a piece of and made by Disney.
Maybe a little fast makeable sign could help. But I think I will sleep another night about this things

Personally, I would add a small watermark. Nothing wrecking the images, just something so everyone knows where it came from.

I have lots of photos from 1992. I won't have time to scan them this week, I'll do it the week after.

Do you accept files uploaded in a zip to a file-sharing website via the e-mail?

This is such a great idea! But please provide the images in high quality (printable) and not only website res.

I will send some more stuff from the opening week in April 1992 as soon as i can...

No, I don't like the idea with the watermarks. I want to collect this kind of information and a watermark ruins it for me. If someone wants to steal them I say let them. There is no harm to DLRP Magic as it is simply not possible to compete with DLRP Magic in terms of design and content. I repeat: NO WAY.

If they steal it it will only bring them shame as soon as people find out where they stole it from.

Edit: I just had a thought... How about watermarked, website size images for the regular visitors but access to the not-watermarked and full-res images for the contributes to the archive (of course only if they request it - and only a collector would...)

Yes, and also if people are going to be sending things in, I'm not sure about stamping a giant website logo on them. It'd be too much trouble and take up to much of the image to write the actual source of each one, though.

Willow wrote:Personally, I would add a small watermark. Nothing wrecking the images, just something so everyone knows where it came from.

Yeah, I didn't have anything massive in mind, just the tiniest "dlrpmagic.com". Because, unfortunately, it is very likely that someone would take them and not state the source, which I'd be concerned about for the people who took the time to send them in, more than the site.

Willow wrote:Do you accept files uploaded in a zip to a file-sharing website via the e-mail?

I think so!

Mobi wrote:This is such a great idea! But please provide the images in high quality (printable) and not only website res.

The images done already are displayed on the page in 500px width or height (like this), then can be clicked to see in 1000px (like this), is that big enough? Any bigger and the printing gaps become noticeable anyway.

Thanks for the confidence!

The images and the site do look better without a stamp on there, somehow more valuable or credible... can't think of the word. But just to begin with at least, I'll try adding watermarks using PHP and htaccess. Here's an example:

Image

And on a larger version it stays the same size: http://www.dlrpmagic.com/memorabilia/im ... ney_01.jpg

I'm not sure how much the server will like this code, we'll see. But they're not actually stuck permanently on the images "behind the scenes", so they can be removed with a single line of code. The main advantage though is, if I decide to keep this and someone desperately wants the images without them, like you asked, I can provide a link to override it.

Anyway, I've only added 17 things and not even started on the html for the theme, so maybe that was optimistic earlier. It's easy to get sidetracked when you stumble across a Fastpass from De La Terre a la Lune, from 2 weeks before it closed...

Marvelous! Great logo, too. Gotta love early '90s graphic confetti.

I'll start sending things as soon as I get my scanner to work (don't you just love PCs.)

Are any media preferred over others? I mean, is there some collective yearning for pages of old guidemaps (i.e. text, prose, information), photographs, things like passports and sugar packets, or...?

Maybe skip the sugar packets (for now..), but pretty much anything else is very welcome. Personally I'd love to see inside the old guidemaps as much as look at their covers. I've added all the old brochure covers from here and it does seem to lack something if you can't at least see a few snippets from inside.

Park tickets I'd especially like. The collections people are posting over here are amazing, but I've only got about 5 tickets before I started on APs (and annoyingly the CM in the passport office swiped and binned my old 2007 one of those before I'd realised... hopefully that's a not a trend). The old pre-2001 designs were brilliant and definitely deserve to be catalogued. Any pre-2006 AP designs are also welcome, as well as 2007 I guess.

Otherwise, it's pre-2000 guidemaps, programmes and photographs top of the wanted list. I'm also missing the Fastpasses for Flying Carpets, Studio Tram Tour and Indy Backwards (presuming it had a different design).

The site should be live later, so that'll give a much better idea anyway.

So, I decided to continue adding a few more items yesterday rather than do the homepage and get it live. And today, I've stumbled on a folder of around 30 construction photos from the roofs of Main Street someone sent me in 2004, which I thought I'd lost forever...

Hey Anthony,

Have you heard of this guy called Tony Killeen? He has some rare construction photos of both Disneyland Park and the Walt Disney Studios Park on his personal website:

http://www.tonykilleen.com/DisneyStudioParis.html

To get to the REALLY good stuff you should check out this directory:

I'm just doing a fairly simple homepage now, so it should all launch... tonight!

I have stumbled on those before, thanks for reminding me now! Can't see any way of contacting him on his website, though. Would it be a bit to cheeky to add the interesting photos anyway, with a credit?

The Helmsman just sent me a wonderful restaurants brochure from 1992, really amazing.

Brilliant addition Ant, I'm very impressed with it. You really have created an incredible collection. Well done =D>

Shouldn't the 2007-2010 WDS map have already been updated to include Playhouse Disney Live on Stage? So a 2007-2009 and a 2009-2010 instead?

That's a good point, thanks!

There are 165 Items on there at the moment, and I've still got plenty lying around here yet to be added. It's going to continue to grow for quite some time hopefully.

Excellent work Anthony. The simple layout is actually a good thing; it's clear and intuitive.

wonderful idea!!! =D> =D> =D>

and then I could bang my head against a wall:
I had a HUGE collection of park items from the earliest day's of EuroDisney (starting in 1992) and - guess what - I got rid of it when I moved out of my parent's in 1999.....   ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

I remember one of my most treasured objects was a big poster of the parkmap; the official opening-map-poster with quotes from Eisner and Walt Disney; including the planned Little Mermaid Ride and some other details ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

outch, now my head hurts (and my heart too, a little bit...)
