changing the hotel you booked

Postby sarahH » Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:21 pm

Just thought i would share this with you.

We booked last year to go to santa fe hotel for begining of june as we were hoping to go on Eurostar. But as the price for the eurostar was proving too much and I was worrying about the cost of feeding us all for a week, I thought about changing the hotel to davey crocket where we stayed last year, then we would be self catering and wouldn't have to worry about eating out.

I looked online at the prices and visited the travel agent to enquire if disney let you change hotels. I knew by looking online that i could get the same dates and amount of days for £80 less than id already paid, or 1 extra day and night for £57 more. (this is for 2 adults and a 16 yr old and a 9yr old)

She phoned disney and the reply was........you can change the hotel no problem. you can have the same dates and days BUT you will have to pay a 35% penalty charge :o .....OR you can have the extra day and night and just pay the extra £57.

Well you can imagine what I went for....the lady in the travel agent couldn't believe the 35% penalty charge and said you would be daft to pick that one lol.

does anyone else think 35% is abit steep or is it just me

We are all now excited to be spending 6 days in disney \:D/

It does sound quite steep I thought if the price of accommodation was more they normally waiver the charge I believe. 6 days at Disney, I'm so jealous most I've done is 4!

It's all in their terms and conditions, as long as you end up spending more (including costs of extras like Buffalo Bills or Not So Scary Halloween party say), then you can change with no penalty. If you end up spending less than initial booking you will probably be charged a fee, depending on how close to date of arrival you are.

yep, this is correct. You would have been charged 35% to pay less for your DLP trip because you were paying less (ie downgrading your package). It would also have been because you were enquiring about it less than 60 days before your check-in date. Thats where the 35% cancellation fee would have come in (if you'd enquired earlier you would have had a 10% cancellation fee instead).
