Take one day out of parks for Paris?

Postby Tinkswishes28 » Sun Apr 08, 2012 12:04 pm

Has anyone skipped the Parks for a day to visit Centre of Paris? We are thinking of skipping out for half a day on the Weds to show 5 year old the Eiffel Tower, and maybe go on boat trip on the river Seinne.I am a little concerned about getting the RER back at dusk as I have heard it s not safe? Also I am not sure if taking a day out of our 5 day trip is cost effective, or a good way to break up the holiday.

hi we did this a couple of weeks ago we got the rer a from disney upto charles de gaulle then walked to the eiffel tower (not far and nice walk) had a look around the area then we did a cruise i had pre booked down the seine which was great i thought,my daughter is 10 and to be honest she wasnt interested that much and was more interested in looking in the disney store on the champs elysees despite the fact we had looked in every shop in disney beforehand,we got day tickets that cost about 24 euros for the both of us and were called a 1 day mobilis card i think as it is cheaper than the visite paris 1 day card, we stoped at val d'europe on the way back to have a look around and went back in the evening to val d'europe for a meal,on all the trains i felt completelly safe even travelling back at 10pm from val d'europe although the first train in the morning was busy but nowhere near as busy as the tube in london, personally i think it is more of an adult thing unless your child is really interested in the eiffel tower etc

I started my trip in Paris and spent the night in a cheap hotel before heading to Disneyland. Because of the decent RER connection I arrived in the park around 8.45. Giving me plenty of time to drop luggage of at the hotel and even enjoy a part of the extra magical hours. I can recommend this approach to anyone looking to visit both the city and DLRP, as it allows you to save on a hotel if you want to (huge range of options around the city) and you still get to spend a lot of time in the parks. Also, when travelling by train you tend to have a lot more options (departure times and prices) when going to Paris nord instead of marne la vallee, making it possible to save a bit on the train ticket aswel.

It's better to travel from Paris to Disneyland by train or with the underground? And how much time last the trip?

Thanks everyone, I think I will play it by ear, as I am unsure as to whether or not my 5 year old disney mad daughter will be willing to leave the parks!

Thanks; A is the name of the line? It's easy to get on and off from the trains even if there are many people inside them?

Yes, trains are pretty accessible. They are more similar to underground/city trains then to high speed trains, so plenty of doors and standing areas near them.

My first trip in 1993 we arrived at Disney, checked into the Sequoia Lodge, then my mum took us to Paris for the day. 19 years later and she's still not forgiven!

Spoiler: show
she is really ;)
and straight on till morning.

hi yes A is the name of the line, the train stations were very well signposted and easy to navigate with big signs telling you which platform you need to go to,to go either the paris direction or disney direction, like said the train was busy early in the morning when we travelled but a lot of people got off at the same stop as us but people were aware if anyone wanted to get off and moved out of the way anyway

There is an RER station at DLP which connects you to central Paris. RER is a kind of express underground/suburban train system. Unlike London, which just has the tube and railways, Paris has trains plus two subway systems, the regular Metro and the RER. The RER is newer, faster, services fewer stations (but is faster between those stations) and travels far beyond the regular Metro, out into the suburbs. The trip from central Paris to DLP is quick and stress free, I have done it and I highly recommend it. I think the journey from Chatelet-Les Halles (near Notre Dame) to Disney (Chessy) on RER line A4 is about 45 minutes.

It Is so easy navigating the Paris area train system.

If you are familiar with the UK setup of London Underground, Thameslink and National Rail you will find Paris to be much simpler.

The Metro is the local (ie within Paris) equivalent of London Underground. The RER is the service for outlying areas such as Versailles and Marne La Vallee-Chessy (DLP).

You can find information here: http://www.ratp.fr/en/ratp/c_5000/accueil/
enjoy yourself, it's later than you think!
